Experience of blc Dutch Summer School

blc Dutch Summer school provides the intensive Dutch language lessons in serene accommodation.

My husband and I decided to enroll this Dutch summer school. We attended 2 weeks course in Durenthe where we choose one out of two venue-options: Durenthe and Amsterdam.

I studied hard?! and met friends from different countries and great teachers. It was nice learning experience and a good summer memory.

Some of my friends told me that why  I need to learn Dutch. My husband is not Dutch, I can live in Netherlands without speaking Dutch...it is not UN language (in my field, it is critical to learn these UN languages...I can be competitive more than people just speak English.) There is no "useless language"! My reasoning is here 1. Why I need to learn Dutch?

Here, I wrote my experience with some reflections. I hope these articles encourage you to study Dutch.

Epilogue: After the camp - what remains

Only 2 weeks...it was very short to accomplish many. However, it was certainly meaningful time in terms of learning Dutch and people's culture.

What is my achievement?
It must be meaningful to reflect what I have achieved after the 2 weeks of intensive training.
I would like to say I have achieved very important target which is removing negative feeling toward Dutch language. This negative feeling is the most critical mental block learning this.

Just in case, I should say that I had had never bad experience with Dutch people. My entire stay here is very good. I would say "big"people have big heart :) (good friend of mine's height is nearly 2 meter high!)

Then, you may wonder why I developed the certain negative feeling toward their language? It is related to how I met this language and what reasons brought me here in the Netherlands.

The reason I am here is simply reunification with my family member (my husband). My husband was here alone for nearly 1 year before I arrived.
It was happy moment to see him here but I felt lost. The job, my profession is my life..It took much of my energy to learn and built career but I eventually needed to stop for a moment. So, I readopt to other culture and job market again. It is exciting time but at the same time I felt lost. So, Dutch language attaches to this feeling of lost.

(For some technical reasons, I could not stay his home country. Just in case, I should say...I did not commit anything bad there simply visa status reason. After many thoughts running through my head, I decided to come to Netherlands.)

How can I achieve this?
Simply I just focused on the time and felt always my presence in the moment. The environment such as beautiful and serene nature, classmate, teacher's presence helped me a lot to focus on study.

And certain pressure helped as well. A person who came here from outside of Netherlands and received approximately 300 euro per month salary feel taking this course is really really big investment! So, I could not afford to feel something negative about learning this language.
For the fairness of the school, tuition fee with accommodation of this school is quite friendly! But I could not help feeling that it is big investment considering my earning of previous job.

Friendship
Another "souvenir" of this camp was friendship. I did not expect this much since I really needed to study hard. (now you know I felt certain pressure..) I was placed with other adult learners. I could have nice conversation with them.
I miss my classmates after the course! So, my husband, one of these classmate and I enjoyed mimicking our friends (Please do not get offended!). We spend quite enough time together then somehow we learned person's certain character and way of doing things. What we have done is not nice to mention here but it is one way of keeping our good summer memories.

I took friend's pictures and save the happy moment. However, it cannot be substitute of memories. It may not come same people stay in the same place. But thank you for the technology, I still stay in tough of these friends (especially classmates have Facebook account!)

Epilogue
After the Dutch summer course, one of the classmate stayed in our house in the Hague for 2 nights since she did not book the flight going home immediately after the summer course. (it was good decision!)
Therefore we were allowed to spend time together. We went shopping for our groceries, traveled to the Rotterdam to enjoy the festival and city itself, biked in the Hague together...

She is very much eager to learn the language then, she always tried to get a chance to talk to the locals. I should take a lesson from her...Along the way, we met and had conversations with many locals such as a mother with her children, workers, vendors, professor and even former actor..She showed me learning is never end.

After she went to home, we start exchange letters. She is a person of letter. This friendship will stay long and makes us motivate to continue studying Dutch.

I wish my husband and I will see her and other classmates soon and somewhere again. Maybe next year of Dutch language course?

Who knows..and waarom niet?

Knowing other culture through learning Dutch

Learning language in general is an entrance of learning other cultures. It also applies when I study Dutch. Especially, it helps learners a lot to learn of Dutch society and culture. But actually not only that, we eventually learn and exchange culture of people these who study Dutch language.

One of these class activities during the Dutch summer school was to discuss how our cultures celebrates birthday.

Well, most of our society monotonously celebrate our birthday by eating cake and giving gifts. It seems no uniqueness. However, once we discuss, we found certain differences...

In the Philippines

Starting from the practice which I am certainly familiar with...
In the Philippines a celebrant prepares something to eat. While I was working in University, a colleague cooked meals for other teachers on her Birthday. She technically fed us all in the faculty lounge (around 50 people!) . It was a very delicious and complete meal with vegetable, meat, rice, cake and ice cream.

I feel that our life is given by the God (if you do not believe it, let's say your parents...). Instead of being celebrated, it would be beautiful to initiate celebration of your day.

In Netherlands
People usually remember people's Birthday. Because most likely, the calendar in side toilet marks family, relatives and friends' birthday.
At the age of 50, quite a lot of people throw a big birthday party. Female reaches 50 year-old is called Sarah, and male is called Abraham. Abraham and Sarah are figures in the Bible. According to the Bible, both lived long. That is the reason of these names and practice.

My group-mates' countries
In Cambodia, according to my classmate, a celebrant invites people and have a lunch or dinner in the restaurant. Usually parents pay the cost. In her case, she invites 50-60 people. Wow...

Polish friend explained "name day". There is a name Day calendar which assigns name of person on certain day. For example, your name is Anna. Then, you might celebrate your name day on July 26th. Polish has two birthday celebration a year. However, according to my classmate, younger generation pay less attention to the name day.

Her name day happened to be during our Dutch summer camp. Then, she let us experience it. She prepared nice soup and cakes. Then, later part of our class became a petite Birthday party.

Hartelijk gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag!

she cooked nice mustard soup. Lekker!

In Japan
Ops, I almost forget to mention about my country. Japanese did not have a custom to celebrate birthday for long time. Some says current practice started after the World War II.
We counted our age as "Kazoe doshi",East Asian age reckoning, which counts newborns at the age of one year. At the time, everyone aged at the same time, on January 1st all together. So, if a person is born in December, s/he will be 2 years old in January. This practice lasted until the law has been changed in 1949.

As earlier I mentioned, decades and long time ago people did not celebrate their Birthday. However, there are several cultural practices existed celebrate certain ages. Such as shi-go-san, which means seven-five-three. It is a traditional rite of passage for three and seven years old girls and three and five years old boys, celebrate the growth and well-being of young annually on November 15.

How would you celebrate your birthday?

MUST do! before joining Dutch summer school

Do we need to prepare before the Dutch summer school?

YES! we need to prepare for it in order to maximize the learning.. In fact, most of my friends in the Dutch summer class did study by themselves. But some might did less because of time management.

How can I prepare for the Dutch summer school?

Do Dutch Grammar
Do not learn the grammar in the summer school!

It sounds strange. It does not mean you should not learn the grammar at all. What I want emphasize here is you better go through all basic Dutch grammar before the summer course. A teacher still explains grammatical rules but these time would be minimized in order to secure the time for the speaking practice. A teacher assumes you have studies these before.

If you know them before hand, your summer class discussion will be more earlier.

Do memorize vocabularies as much as possible

Memorize vocabularies as much as possible. Especially beginner needs to memorize at least 500 words. My smartphone application indicate number of vocabularies based on the level of learner. In other way to say, if a learner claims s/he reaches A2 level, s/he must know around 1200 words.

A1 (Beginner) 500 words level
A2 (Elementary) 501-1250
B1 (Lower Intermediate) 1251-2250
B2 (Upper Intermediate) 2251-3500
C1 (advanced) 3501-5000

Once learner reach certain level, some says we can guess from the context. I disagree with this idea. This must be the last resort. So, we, learner must lesser unknown vocabularies.

Question here is how we can memorize these number of words? If most of Dutch language leaner have already experienced to study the second language, we may have own our ways to do so.
Based on my experience learning English, until reaching certain words level, it will be easy to memorize with a sample sentence. But once I reached certain level, it does not work that much. When I need to know certain jargon, I may need to memorize the vocabularies.

Do workbook
Well, some people might say doing workbook is ineffective because it makes us bored and it eventually lowers our motivation. I do disagree with this. I still think it is very helpful because Doing workbook helps us to aware the grammatical rule. And if you include speaking practice at the same time when you check the answer, you can learn and practice both the grammar and speaking.
Another point I want to raise is the learner feel his or her achievement if s/he finishes one workbook. I believe a sense of achievement is important.

Do watch or listen Dutch
Watch or listen Dutch TV, Youtube video, familiarize the sounds is important to avoid the situation a learner being overwhelmed by unknown foreign sounds. My level of Dutch proficiency is not high enough to enjoy these options yet but I nowadays start watching strange Dutch TV programs anything under RTL5 TV such as Adam Zkt. Eva. These TV shows made me surprised a lot... (but it is more on learning something Dutch people not language...)

However, for the beginner, I cannot recommend it that much. Beginner has to know more vocabularies. So, for beginner, better read around books for children rather than youtube contents.

Do speak with Dutch friend

If you have Dutch friend/boy or girl friend/husband or wife..., practice with them. Once we speak foreign language, we use different muscle. More you speak more you can get the sounds.

Oh, if you have such a friend or someone, you may think you do not need to go to school. I do not think so. They are your (boy or girl) friends or husband and wife. So they do not want to correct your grammatical mistakes and pronunciation.

Rome was not built in a day

Several websites mentioned how to measure our progress looking at numbers of hours.
Here is the table which is mention the relation between level of proficiency and number of hours.
A1 proficiency: 60-100 hours
A2 proficiency: 180-200 hours
B1 proficiency: 350-400 hours
B2 proficiency: 500-650 hours
C1 proficiency: 700-900 hours
C2 proficiency: 1.000-1.200 hours

But this is just an indication. If learner's mother tongue or official language is close to Dutch, such as German and English, they may learn faster than other language group. I am a Japanese, so I have to give myself bit generous time to reach certain level.

Well, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Invitation to the Dutch Art through the class activity

Coming this October until December, there will be an art exhibition of two art giants, Vincent van Gogh and Gauguin, in Tokyo. I wish I would be there to enjoy the exhibit!

Two's lives crossed for sometime in a certain place. Both lived together for two months in France because Van Gogh invited Gauguin to live together. But two strong personalities could not allow them stay together, eventually Gauguin left, which is one of factors causing Van Gogh psychological distress.

油絵用の絵具油絵用の絵具

Information of the art exhibition reminded me my fascination to their artwork. Decades ago, when I saw the picture of Sunflower by Van Gogh on the art book, its distinct and intense yellow attracted me a lot. After that, speaking of Netherlands, for me it is the art.
( * Gauguin is French)

Starting from Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the elder, in the golden age of Dutch art, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals are known by many even though you are not fun of the art. In the modern time, of course, Vincent van Gogh is well-known and very popular in my country, Japan too (that is the reason there is the exhibit).

Very brief history of Dutch art
On the process of independence from the Spain, religious art which was iconic one was destroyed. Addition to that, Calvinism denied impersonation of the art. The Calvinists revolved the holy icon destruction.

The church could not be a patron of the art any more. For long time, aside from the church, landlord and aristocrat were the patron. Later, the various patrons were involved. This bought the change to the art circle.

The artist draw the patron merchant as true to nature, ugly nude woman, homeless...these are not the objects of art before.

According to Nagasaka (2002, p138), the golden age of Netherlands demanded the art the most. Arts from Italy were sold to the European continent through Amsterdam market. Rembrandt had never been to Italy, but he could learn Italian arts by viewing various arts which went through  Amsterdam.

Rembrandt and others did not mind the popular art style. They drew various types, still-life painting, landscape, genre picture. Individual portrait evolved to group portrait. The one of the well-know work of Rembrandt is De Nachtwacht (actual title is De compagnie van kapitein Frans Banning Cocq en luitenant Willem van Ruytenburgh. ).

Imitating the Dutch artAppreciating the Dutch art and its novelty, in the class, we tried to imitate the great work of Dutch artists. But we did not draw, we did act and pose by following instruction.

How?

Some of us volunteered themselves. These volunteers just followed instruction other group of people. The instruction was in Dutch. Volunteers moved and formed certain posture. Some volunteers might have noticed what was the art.

The below are two master pieces.

First one is De Aardappeleters (The Potato Eaters) by Van Gogh, and The Blinding of Samson by the Philistines by Rembrandt. I was the part of the second one. It was very enjoyable activity and reminded us great Dutch artists.

By the way, Van Goah stayed meanwhile in Drenthe, place where we had Dutch summer class. To commemorate this, there is Van Gogh Huis which allows us to know a part of his life.

Viva Dutch Art!

Where can we buy groceries and daily items? : Nearest town, Westerbork

2 weeks (9 class-days) is the shortest course. Even our stay is"short", we still need buy food and daily items since foods are not included and the accommodation does not have certain items such as toilet paper, bathroom amenities and so on...we have to replenish them.

Then, I needed to go to the town center of Westerbork. In the town,  there are chain supermarkets, JUMBO, LIDLE and so on...

How long does it take?

It takes 10-15 mins by bike and 40 mins by walk. If you do have enough time, I recommend to walk until the town. It can be good exercise and you can enjoy the view.

There are two ways to reach the town. I prefer to take a roundabout way. Along the way, you can enjoy to see typical Dutch house with well-kept lawn. And the art was jumped into my eyes.

Actually, there is no landmark. So, my husband and I were worried whether we were on the right way or not. But once we went through the way, it was very simple

JUMBO or LIDLE
JUMBO
I could buy what I needed in the both supermarkets, JUMBO and LIDLE. Both are close each others (5 mins walking distance). So, once I was in the town, I went both.

Both open even on Sunday afternoon, 1 PM until 6 PM (July, 2016 present) and have large selection (in terms of food). I would LIDLE is cheaper but JUMBO has Asian groceries.

So, I bought some basic items in LIDLE and I added some items in JUMBO such as Red curry and coconut milk.

What activities we can enjoy the town?
There are bar, cafe, restaurant, disco...During our stay, one weekend the town celebrated the festival.

Musicians played the music, on the street vendors opened various shops. They sold foods, bags, clothes and so on. It was enjoyable to look at these. My friend bought some sausages.

The local people enjoyed the day having beer with friends. There are people who are not resident of Westerbork.
I met people who are not resident in the Westerbork and wanted to be away from big city.

Let's talk with the local people in Dutch.
Bring the pins: ik leer nederlands (I study Dutch) when you go out!
The pin was given by the school on the very first day.
This pins was very effective. People in the town did not miss it. However, it was too fast to catch what s/he said. I could understand only 40 percents at the most. I asked my husband's help since he is advanced.

It is maybe this pins(?), we got close to the local people and they helped us. When my husband, my fiend and I went to the town, we were unfortunately caught by heavy rain. I brought a umbrella but it was too small to cover three of us. We took shelter from rain under an awning.

While we were staying there, we got close to a gentle elder Dutch couple.

We enjoyed talk under the rain. At the end, they rend my small umbrella, went back home to get their car and brought us to the accommodation. It was great help and we could see the generosity of Dutch local.

MUST bring! items for the Dutch summer camp

Prior to the summer course, I received a lot of email from the school to inform what I have to bring. It was very helpful. In addition to that, I just subjectively listed down below what we must bring;

Japanese people would say: 備えあれば、憂いなし(sonae areba, urei nashi!), it means You can never be too prepared.

The accommodation does not have! We tend to expect the accommodation have daily necessary items which make our stay comfortable. However, the accommodation is NOT hotel! Therefore, students have to bring own your towels, bathroom amenities (tooth brash, shampoo, soup), toilet paper..

If you forget to bring these, you have to buy in the supermarket. The location of supermarket is 3 km away from our accommodation. It takes 40 mins by walk and 10 mins by bike. It is nice to go to the town however, I wanted to minimize time to spend going and buying these...

In order to focus of your study!, I would like to list the items which is, I believe, useful if you bring from your home. (I think this may applicable for person living in the Netherlands. )

1. Bathroom amenities, toilet paper
As I wrote earlier, the accommodation does not have shampoo, soup, and other items. So, it is nice to bring them.
The accommodation provides initially one roll of toilet paper for one house (for 4 people). So, students definitely replenish it. Smallest package in the super market was 4 rolls in a pack. My husband and I consumed 2 rolls and half.

And dish washing soup is also needed. It many not consume one bottle within 2 weeks then you can bring from the house.

2. Small portion of seasonings
Students stay 2-8 weeks. We cook every day but we do not consume 1 kg of salt or sugar, a bottle of oil..so, it would be nice to bring small portion of these items. Especially you come from the Netherlands.

Well, students can share the cost buying these things..and it is also possible that 4 students in one house can cook alternately. But if students do not discuss about monetary contribution of buying these, later it would be problem.

3.Ready to eat items
It is not nice to eat it all the time. But on the first day, I arrived the accommodation late afternoon and I was so tired. Eventually I was discourage to go to the town buy foods. to survive very first day, it would be nice to bring something ready to eat.

4. Extra notebook and ball-pen
On the very first day, the school gave us very cute orange notebook, orange ball-pen and a badge. But I brought own my note book since I expected to finish it. Then, I was right I finished one notebook and ball-pen. So, if you are the person who write a lot, it is better to bring one.

notebook and ball-pen

5. Dictionary
Some of my classmate brought it. I had one in the Philippines but I could not bring it when I came here. So, I download free-application. It was useful when I made sentences during the class.

6. Insect repellent
The accommodation in Drenthe is blessed with beautiful nature. As an exchange of this, there are many bags.. Daytime, it was sunny and beautiful, then not only students but also other residents remain door open. Eventually, the house invite insect. My friend could not sleep well because of mosquitoes-bite until she purchased insect repellents.

My case...I was trained in the Philippines...then I was not bitten by any insects during my stay :D

(Mosquito here in the Netherlands is big and slow compare to the Philippines. I could eliminate them once they were inside my room. )

7. Bottle (for drinking water)
In the classroom ,there is a kitchen. Water is accessible. You can have a glass of water by using glass in the room. But I preferred to have own bottle since we had activities outside of the classroom. So, I could bring it. This year, summer in the Netherlands is rather cold. But once it became sunny, it was quite hot. I needed water.

8. Sandal
A pair of sandal was very useful. Especially inside the house, I did not want to wear shoes all the time. Some of my friend walked with barefoot but for me too cold wearing nothing.. Better bring a pair!

9. Something unique (from your country?)
My classmate brought bottles of vodka (Żubrówka) . (*She came by her own car. And it does not mean we had drinking session every night :D ) She shared it to other friends there. Because of this, these who drink (a lot), enjoyed night of talk with drinks.
I brought mongo beans and pieces of dried fishes. I cooked mongo soup in Filipino way. I thought people do not appreciate this since it has distinct fish and garlic smell. But I shared this Filipino food to neighbors because I am sure that most of my friends there have never tasted Filipino dish (cooked by Japanese!). They seemed to enjoy it.

So, if you have some space of your suitcase, it would be nice to bring something to share with your friends.

Learning environment, why I preferred Drenthe than Amsterdam

Dutch summer school gave us two venues-options; Amsterdam and Drenthe (as of now).If a person is first-timer coming to the Netherlands, s/he may prefer Amsterdam. Usually, the big and globally famous city attracts people. It has many night life options too...

My husband and I preferred Drenthe over Amsterdam because simply we wanted to be away from the big city. We assumed Drenthe gives us space to enjoy nature. Once I arrived the place, I appreciated more than I imagined.

The venue for the summer school is not the training center. This is a recreation facility with accommodation, called Vakantiepark Het Timmerholt (the park). It is located in a bit isolated place where is 10-15 mins distant by car from the nearest station, Beilan.

During summer, green color is vivid. In the morning, I could hear birds twittering. In the rainy day, I could see a squirrel searching something in the garden.

Facility of Vakantiepark
It is true to it's name, it is very wide, affords to have ponds, small park with play equipment. Users including me can enjoy various activities. In the park, there are numerous houses where students stay.

The picture below is the house. It is like a townhouse. One building composes several houses. We were assigned in one of these.

Inside house
We share kitchen, bathroom and living room. For 4 people, it was spacious enough. My husband and I were assigned in one room. It was very considerable. Each room has door to keep its privacy even though the room door does not have key.

(c) blc Dutch summer school

In my case, I was mixed with male students because I was with my husband. Usually, male and female are assigned not in the same house.

You cannot choose the place unless you participate this summer camp as a group. Regarding the room assignment, the school considers age group and so on.

Shared bathroom
Shared kitchen, living room
Kitchen
There is a refrigerator, gas stove, microwave oven, an electronic pod, a coffee maker, pans, pods, utensils,a knife, and a chopping board so on.
Basically, you do not need to bring extra thing to stay here. It is good enough!

But take note, knife here is not sharp enough and a glass chopping board is not so usable. If you want to chop groceries a lot, you might be stressed of using them.

Living space option!
There are two options; you share with others or you rend the private space. The private space costs 40 euros per day. I did not go for this option. Then, my husband and I were assigned in the one house with other two students.

Washing clothes
There is a laundry place near the reception. Using washing machine costs 3 euros and dryer costs 4 euros. If you want to use this, you can purchase the laundry card, 20 euro. If you do not consume all 20 euro, according to the receptionist, the remaining balance will be refunded.
So, we do not need to bring many clothes.

Activities
There are several activity-options. Biking, tennis, golf, canoe, swimming, bingo game and so on. Except swimming in the "small shore", these activities cost you some amount.
So, in the vacant time, we can enjoy one of these.

Well, I wrote several options, but my husband and I enjoyed the most strolling around the place after dinner. We simply appreciated the nature by doing so.
small beach :)

Make sure the bike has both lights, front and back and they are functioning. Summer in Netherlands is long. Sunset is around 9-10 pm. Most likely, you may not bike after sunset. But there was the case going to a bar/restaurant in the nearest town and coming back very late.
Then, a bike needs light. It avoids traffic accident and avoid to pay penalty! Police penalizes you if you do not have bike lights.

colorful rental bike, 38 euro/week
Restaurant
There is a restaurant inside the accommodation. If you are tired of cooking, then here would be another option.
Of course, in the town, there are several look-nice restaurant.

By the way, I have never dined in the Netherlands. Then, this time, I finally experienced eat-out, it was pancake house as a part of class activities.

So far, my experience in Drenthe was good. If my friends think of taking Dutch summer class, I may recommend Drenthe option.

Communicate in Dutch with local people: going to the Pancake house

As a part of class activities, the class went to pancake house (pannenkoekenhuis). Mission in the pancake house was we order in Dutch.

Ho ho ho, that is easy! I can guess what waiters and waitresses will ask me. And of course, they expect what I am going to say. There is certain pattern...But my worry was my pronunciation. My Dutch sounds like (Filipino) English.

On that day, the class spent half of our class in the room. After that, we went to "pannenkoekenhuis. Let's have an activity in pannenkoekenhuis...well, after order, we just eat them..and enjoy conversation..

Most of the classmates biked there. Netherlands has orderly bike lane which I always admire because my home country does  not have it even though there are considerable number of people bike everyday.

Therefore, most of the student of summer course rend the bike during their stay. But my husband and I did not because we did not see its necessity. For this activity, very kind classmates let us use her extra bike and offered the ride. So, my husband and I could participate the event.

Upon the arrival, all of us gazed at the menu. I was not sure how many of us have already experienced the pancake house here or their home country. I noticed there are number of pancake house in towns. But I have never experienced because I somehow assumed pancake is usually home-made, it is not the food to eat in the restaurant. Meanwhile, my concern was not speaking Dutch with local...rather what I was going to eat.

I found the Dutch pancake house interesting. In my country, people often think pancake must be sweet with honey or chocolate.aside from home-made.but here, there are variety of choices. Some of these are not totally sweet and it can be the meal.

My husband and I ordered "Boerenpannenkoek", 13 euro. It is a meal like pancake including onion, paprika, beacon, cheese and mushroom...it was quite big. I shared with my husband and we finally could eat it all. Some classmates skipped the lunch in order to enjoy the pancake here.

How was our most important mission? Yes, I could order in Dutch by saying "ik wil graak......(I would like to...)." and "met .....(with...)". Well, there was no surprise that waiter could understand it. But it must be bit meaningful since I, so far practiced Dutch with a teacher. Teacher is trained so they surely understand what students say.

It was easy task to order in Dutch than to converse with classmate with Dutch. The conversation could not last long :(

How was the taste? Hummmmm...I tasted thick batter and these vegetables.
My husband tried to add syrup on this pancake. I quickly asked him not "invade" my share of pancake with this..I would rather add mayonnaise. For me, it is maybe the western style of OKONOMIYAKI? (I, all of sudden, missed OKONOMIYAKI taste!)
This experience changed my idea of pancake :) It was very simple and good. We all enjoyed it. It was nice to have it in this location. We could enjoy the view of countryside.

During your stay in Netherlands, please try the pancake house and order in Dutch :)

The pancake house we went was DE STROHOED.
